A parent’s worst nightmare is to see his or her child in pain and taken away to an emergency room. Injuries during sports-related events and practices seem inevitable but there are steps that parents can take to help reduce that risk for their child. Parents teaming up with athletic trainers can help provide those safe conditions.

Continuing to play after an injury occurs can worsen that injury and lead to time off the court for doctor visits or surgeries much more than just an injury time-out. Proper preparation, technique and hydration are key factors in keeping students safe from injury. In the event of an injury, student athletes should speak up about their symptoms.
