Colleagues and Friends,

Since the passage of our new legislation, the Executive Council has been working hard on projects that promote athletic trainers, including educating physicians, potential employers, and the public on the value of athletic trainers. To assist us in accomplishing this goal, the Executive Council hired a public relations and marketing firm to help craft a message and develop a 'brand,' that we can promote to our target audiences. The firm we hired has made some excellent recommendations that we are currently acting on. However, there's one recommendation that has been made that we feel requires input from the membership before any action is taken. That recommendation is to design and adopt a new logo for the Society.

I know that many of you will have some very strong opinions on this topic, especially in light of the controversy over the NATA's new logo. Like many of you, I was disappointed with the way the NATA handled the logo change, so I don't take this issue lightly. Allow me to explain our reasons proposing the change, as well as how it will be handled.

First, understand that the discussion of a change in our logo began well before the NATA vote. This is not in any way a knee jerk or 'me too' reaction to what the NATA has done. We had been discussing developing a second or 'alternative logo' that would be easier to recognize on clothing from a distance (after all, we all make pretty good billboards while on the sidelines!). Our PR firm further confirmed our thoughts on this issue but strongly advised us that in order to develop our brand, we needed to consider a single, fresh new logo that is more contemporary in style and that is easier to identify. This new design would be used heavily, on marketing letters to physicians, on our new website (which is currently under development), and on our new exhibit display. The EC decided to explore the recommendations of the PR firm, and asked them to develop new logo designs. The EC also agreed to present these new designs to the membership, and allow members to vote for the design they like best...including the current logo.

That's where you come in. Shortly, all ATSNJ members with email addresses on file will receive a message that contains a link to vote. Click on the link and vote for the logo you feel best represents the ATSNJ. Voting will begin immediately, and will end at noon on October 26th.

Although election season is upon us and we've seen enough campaign ads, hopefully this is one vote that you will enjoy! If you have any questions regarding this issue, please contact me.

Regards,

Robb-
