The
Athletic Trainer's Society of New Jersey, Inc. has named an undergraduate and
professional study program for Richard Malacrea, honoring an outstanding
student from the ATSNJ, Inc. membership, who has excelled academically
and as an athletic training student.
The award is meant to encourage the recipient to continue his/her
education toward a baccalaureate degree.
Each ATSNJ, Inc. Certified Athletic Trainer
supervisor is asked to nominate not more than one candidate for this
award. In presenting the
candidate, the ATC must forward forms completed by the Student, the
Team Physician or an Academic Professor, the Head of the Department
or Dean of the College, and the ATC supervisor.
The Certified Athletic Trainer supervisor
should see that all forms are completed (typed) and forwarded in one
package, with an official transcript of the candidate's academic record,
to the Chair of the ATSNJ Inc.
Scholarship Committee at the address listed above.
The ATSNJ, Inc. Honors and Awards Committee
will screen the candidate and announce its selections to the ATSNJ,
Inc. membership at the annual meeting.

CRITERIA
To be eligible for consideration, an
applicant shall:
1.
Distinguish oneself academically.
A. Records of students shall be judged
on their semester index at the end of the spring semester of their sophomore,
junior or senior year.
B. Students
engaged in undergraduate programs requiring more than four years for
a baccalaureate degree shall be considered for an ATSNJ scholarship
during their third or fourth year.
2.
Perform with distinction as a member
of the Athletic Training Student program in their declared field
of study. NOTE:
The degree of the student's training achievement shall be
weighed at least equally with the degree of the academic performance.
3.
Signify an intention to continue academic work toward a baccalaureate
degree as a full-time undergraduate student and have been judged capable
of this study by a major professor and a major department head, or dean
of the college. NOTE:
The recipient of an ATSNJ scholarship is expected to remain enrolled
in an undergraduate program except for military service or church obligations.
4.
Signify an intention to pursue the profession of athletic training
as a means of livelihood.
5.
Conduct
oneself both on and off the field in a manner which has brought credit
to themselves, their institution, intercollegiate athletics, and the
ideals and objectives of American higher education.
NOTE:
1.
After satisfying the above requirements, consideration shall
be given to one's participation in campus activities other than academic
and athletic training in which they have had an opportunity to demonstrate
qualities of leadership and serve as an example to their fellow students.
2.
Assistance from other sources shall not make the candidate ineligible
for an ATSNJ, Inc. award.
